What is CGHS
The Central Government Health scheme (CGHS) in India is a social service for the welfare of central government employees, pensioners and their dependents. The scheme started in the year 1954. Its objectives are to provide comprehensive health care to its beneficiaries. CGHS provides service through following systems of medicines,

In CGHS Pharmacist is a Group -C, Non-Ministerial, Non-Gazetted post.
Eligibility
Educational qualification
- 12th Class or equivalent pass with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) from a recognized Board or University.
- Diploma in Pharmacy or Equivalent from a recognized Board or University + Two-year experience as Pharmacist in any recognized Hospital or Pharmacy after duly registered as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act 1948; Or Bachelor Degree In Pharmacy (B.Pharm.)
- Duly registered as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act 1948
Age
- Age should be in between 18 to 25 years, relaxable for Government servants up to the age of 40 years in the case of general candidates and up to 45 years in the case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Govt. from time to time).
- Normal age relaxation with 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years OBC candidates and 10 years for PWD.
- In the case of Ex-Service Men-age relaxation is for Service rendered in the Army/Navy/Airforce+3years.
Exam pattern
Exams for CGHS pharmacists are conducted by SSC through online computer-based tests. Which comprise General knowledge, Reasoning and Aptitude, Hindi /English.
Syllabus for CGHS pharmacist
General Intelligence
It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Trends, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation ,Semantic Classification, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/Number Classification, Drawing inferences, Figural Classification, Punched hole/pattern-folding & unfolding, Semantic Series, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Number Series, Embedded figures, Figural Series, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, Word Building, Social Intelligence, Coding and de-coding, Other sub-topics, if any Numerical operations.
General Awareness
Questions are designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment and its application to the society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General polity and scientific research.
Quantitative Aptitude
Arithmetic, Number Systems, Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers Fundamental arithmetical operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, Time and distance, Time and work. Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations. Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles. Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square, Base Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities etc., Statistical Charts: Use of Tables and Graphs, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart
English Language
Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting Mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage.
Hindi Syllabus
Idioms and phrases, Correct the sentences, fill in the blanks, Synonyms and Antonyms, One-word substitution, Comprehension (one passage on which 5 questions asked)

CGHS Pharmacist appointed in level-5 (29200-92300), as per 7th CPC.
Starting salary of CGHS Pharmacist in category X cities will be as follows,
- Basic Pay – 29200/-
- House rent allowance (HRA) – 7884/-
- Dearness Allowance (DA) – 13432/-
- Transportation Allowance (TA) – 5256/-
- Hospital Patient Care Allowance (HPCA) – 4100/-
Total gross salary of CGHS Pharmacist – 59672/- as on December 2023.
Starting salary of CGHS Pharmacist in category Y cities will be as follows,
- Basic Pay – 29200/-
- House rent allowance (HRA) – 5256/-
- Dearness Allowance (DA) – 13432/-
- Transportation Allowance (TA) – 2628/-
- Hospital Patient Care Allowance (HPCA) – 4100/-
Total gross salary of CGHS Pharmacist – 54616/- as on December 2023.
Note: The DA changes every six months. Other than this monthly salary CGHS Pharmacist gets various allowances and bonus as follows,
- Uniform allowance (yearly once) – 5000/-
- Festival bonus (yearly once) – 7000/-
Job Profile of CGHS Pharmacist
- Dispensing the medicines to beneficiary as per doctors’ prescription.
- Counselling of patient regarding dose, time of administration of medicines.
- Maintaining proper stock of medicines in the wellness Centre.
- Checking stock position periodically.
- Checking near expiry medicines well before six months, and notify same to chief medical officer.
- Preparation of monthly indents to central medical store (CMS).
- Preparation of annual indent to CMS.
- Liquidation of slow-moving medicines before six months.
- Preparing indents for Jan Aushadhi medicines.
